ClearCube
Technology
announced that Jackson State University, the fourth-largest institution
of higher learning in Mississippi, has deployed the ClearCube PC Blade
solution in its College of Business. By deploying the ClearCube
solution, Jackson State University was able to increase uptime to more
than 99.9 percent and give students extra desktop space, and a quieter
work environment, without the whir of computer fans.
"Before we implemented ClearCube PC Blades, 10 percent of our
computers were down on any given day. This was a pain for both the
students and faculty and became a real time-suck for our IT staff, as
they were constantly traveling from lab to lab," said Michael Robinson,
assistant to the vice president for security and emerging technology at JSU. "With
ClearCube PC Blades, we have fewer repairs to make and they can all be
made from the helpdesk. My staff is freed up researching and investing
in new technology to keep JSU up-to-date on all the latest emerging
technologies. The PC Blades have practically paid for themselves
already."
With the ClearCube solution, one IT staff member is now able to
manage 400 computers deployed both within computer labs and in
professors' individual offices. ClearCube PC Blades have also helped
JSU eliminate PC theft and damage to the lab computers. With the PC
Blades locked in a secure data center, only a keyboard, monitor, mouse
and a small user port are at each desktop. No valuable information or
hardware can be stolen and no moving parts can be devastated by a
spilled soda.
Universities are challenged with space constraints in student labs and a campus-wide network of PCs to manage. When looking
to refresh the PCs in the computer labs, JSU evaluated both thin clients and traditional PCs, but found ClearCube PC Blades
have better performance and are easier to deploy and manage, providing a much lower total cost of ownership than the other
solutions.
"Higher education is a great market for ClearCube because
universities have such a great need for a solution that's easy to care
for on a campus. The remote manageability of our PC Blades and low
support costs are something all of our customers find imperative," said
Carl Boisvert, president and CEO of ClearCube. "With JSU's need for
high physical security, as well as advanced Grid and clustering
options, PC Blades were the perfect fit."
