Bristol-Myers Squibb Chooses UD for Grid Infrastructure

Bristol-Myers Squibb Company has engaged United Devices to build a high-performance computing (HPC) grid to manage the global pharmaceutical and health care products companys HPC clusters and desktop grid.

Bristol-Myers Squibb selected UD after running an extensive feature-function test plan that demonstrated the capability of UDs solutions across its most important use cases.

Terms of the agreement, which include UD solutions and services, were not released.

We are pleased to gain the opportunity to work closely with a global leader like Bristol-Myers Squibb, said Ben Rouse, chief executive officer at United Devices. This represents a commercial win for United Devices, of course, but it also offers an opportunity to grow our companys already formidable capabilities and solutions slate by working directly with their highly respected scientists and engineers.

United Devices said it has already completed initial installation at Bristol-Myers Squibb and will deliver additional capabilities to meet specific requirements over the next several months.

Bristol-Myers Squibb noted that the UD Cluster Scheduler and PC Grid infrastructure has proved flexible and provided significantly improved performance for actual use cases. In addition, the company will gain improved HPC analytics allowing better management of current and future resource purchase decisions.

In evaluating the UD suite of solutions, Bristol-Myers Squibb simulated some of its use cases by employing the UD Collaboration Center, a unique facility for those using or exploring data center, managed services or HPC virtualization solutions. The center, located in Austin, but globally accessible, provides companies with the necessary elements -- including hardware, software, expertise and methodology -- to validate the business benefits of a UD solution.

Bristol-Myers Squibb used the collaboration center to replicate a pilot environment at scale, which sped the evaluation process and eliminated the chance of potential disruption to the companys production users and environment.

With the addition of Bristol-Myers Squibb, seven of the top 10 global pharmaceuticals now rely on United Devices for their HPC management infrastructures. United Devices serves clients across a range of global businesses primarily in the fields of oil & gas, life sciences, telecommunications, manufacturing, government and academia.
