BEAVERTON, Ore., April 2 -- uXcomm, the leading provider of software products that monitor, control and optimize virtual and physical server environments, today announced that the company has acquired the assets of Virtugo Software, a pioneer in performance and service level management tools for virtual environments. The combination of Virtugo’s products and uXcomm’s Service-Oriented Management Architecture (SOMA) now enables IT professionals to address a growing problem in the data center: trying to manage thousands of virtual servers on thousands of physical servers. Organizations that adopt uXcomm’s integrated approach can now realize the promise of virtualization for optimizing their data center assets and performance.
“While server virtualization has emerged as an effective solution for increasing hardware utilization and systems availability, organizations are beginning to see many of these gains quickly offset by rising management costs and complexities, particularly as they move from limited test to large production deployments,” said Andi Mann, a senior analyst at Enterprise Management Associates. “uXcomm’s acquisition and integration of Virtugo’s technologies will give IT professionals advanced systems management technologies that bridge the physical and virtual divide, while helping their organizations realize the full value of virtualization in their operations.”
For years, uXcomm has provided a broad array of standards-based systems management solutions for manufacturers who needed to help their customers manage disparate network devices from almost any management framework. With the addition of Virtugo’s popular VirtualSuite, IT professionals will be able to monitor and control thousands of virtual machines and hosts, optimize performance to meet service level agreements and plan capacity to ensure high availability from a single console. The combination of uXcomm’s XManage platform, which supports XenSource’s core virtualization technologies, and Virtugo’s VirtualSuite, which supports VMware, provides the first integrated management solution for heterogeneous physical and virtual environments.
“As IT professionals grow and expand the deployment of virtual technologies, it becomes critical that organizations be able to accurately track, monitor, configure and optimize these environments," said James Price, CEO of Fairway Consulting Group Inc. “We look forward to working with uXcomm to continue offering our growing client base next generation technologies that maximize data center performance.”
Under terms of the agreement, uXcomm is purchasing all of Virtugo’s VirtualSuite product line, including Perform and PerformLite, Capacity, Optimize, Meter and Connect, as well as the company’s proven and tested architecture. The company is assuming responsibility for all sales and support contracts and has retained several key members of the Virtugo staff, including Chris Dickson, who is joining uXcomm as vice president of business development.
“This acquisition of Virtugo’s assets is part of our ongoing commitment to provide IT professionals with cutting edge systems management capabilities; offering the only solution in the market that unifies physical and virtual server environments, reducing cost and maximizing performance,” said Earl Hines, director of product marketing at uXcomm. “This acquisition will help uXcomm expand its customer base beyond our traditional market and into the data center, an area where Virtugo has had considerable success.”
“We are pleased to be joining uXcomm and believe by combining our virtualization management product lines with uXcomm’s complementary solutions, our approach will benefit not only our customers but the entire worldwide IT community,” said Chris Dickson, formerly vice president of marketing and strategy of Virtugo and now uXcomm’s VP of business development. “uXcomm’s SOMA approach, when combined with Virtugo’s leading virtualization technologies, allows us to offer a flexible, standards-based platform that can integrate virtual and physical server environments into one common management framework, a true benefit to anyone trying to manage today’s complex IT data center environment.”
