Enomaly Inc. announced the limited
release of the Enomalism Elastic Computing Cloud Platform. The
customized grid service will target the specialized capacity demands of
large-scale hosting and datacenters.
Applications using this
type of grid-enabled infrastructure or environment enable enterprises
to efficiently utilize a series of geographically dispersed virtual
computing resource clouds of computing capacity. Recently, this
approach to hosting has been referred to as "cloud computing." Each
cloud enables various "storm fronts" and allows customers to
intelligently and elastically adapt their environment based on real
world conditions. Enomalism customization eliminates the so-called
success penalty often incurred by customers seeking to leverage
general-purpose servers, storage, and networking equipment and services
in a hosted environment.
The Enomalism Elastic Cloud primarily
is made up of the following components; the Enomalism Enterprise
Edition, allocation/accounting manager, geo-targeted load balancer and
a clustered file-system.
Enomalism Elastic hosting technology is
designed to eliminate the problems inherent with typical shared hosting
infrastructures. This technology provides customers with a "clustered"
handling of security, load balancing and necessary Web site resources.
Gold Allocation/Accounting Manager
Gold
is an open source accounting system that tracks and manages resource
usage on high-performance virtual servers. It acts much like a bank in
which resource credits are deposited into accounts with access controls
designating which users, projects and machines may access the account.
As jobs complete or as resources are utilized, accounts are charged and
resource usage recorded. Gold supports familiar operations such as
deposits, withdrawals, transfers and refunds. It provides balance and
usage feedback to users, managers and system administrators.
Since
accounting needs vary widely from organization to organization, Gold
has been designed to be extremely flexible, featuring customizable
accounting and supporting a variety of accounting models. Attention has
been given to scalability, security and fault tolerance. Gold
facilitates the sharing of resources between organizations or within a
Grid by providing distributed accounting while preserving local site
autonomy.
Load Balancer
Virtual Server
based Load balancing software uses multiple virtual machines to spread
work around and thereby speed and performance. Enomalism uses user-mode
load-balancing software with its own network stacks that runs over
Linux and Solaris in the form of a virtual server. All the work is done
by the software; the operating system is used only for accessing the
physical network interfaces and TCP/IP functions. It supports many
different load balancing methods, including round robin, random, hash,
and least resource. The software can provide load balancing not only
for Web servers, but almost any kind of service, including HTTP, FTP,
SQL, POP3, IMAP and SMTP.
Geo-Targeting
A
sudden increase in traffic from China? No problem, the load balancer
creates 10 new instances in the Asian Cloud and point all Chinese
traffic to those instances.
Geo-targeting, or geographical
targeting, is a way for servers and applications to automatically
adjust for a geographical location. Load balancing tied directly to
geo-targeting allows you to target system resource more specifically to
the region requiring the most demand. This approach allows for an
adaptive scaling for only the regions that require it. By providing
operating system level geo-targeting, administrators can more
intelligently create an elastic computing server environment.
Clustered File System
Enomalism
uses a clustered file-system called GlusterFS and is capable of scaling
to several petabytes. It aggregates various storage bricks over
Infiniband, RDMA or TCP/IP interconnects into one large parallel
network file system. GlusterFS utilizes one of the most sophisticated
file systems in terms of features and extensibility. It borrows a
powerful concept called Translators from GNU Hurd kernel. Much of the
code is in userspace and easily manageable.
Squid Web Proxy Cache
Squid
is a high-performance proxy caching server for web clients, supporting
FTP and HTTP, as well other various data objects. Squid handles all
requests in a single, non-blocking, I/O-driven process. Squid keeps
meta data and especially hot objects cached in RAM, caches DNS lookups,
supports non-blocking DNS lookups, and implements negative caching of
failed requests. Squid supports SSL, extensive access controls, and
full request logging. By using the lightweight Internet Cache Protocol,
Squid caches can be arranged in a hierarchy or mesh for additional
bandwidth savings.
Stunnel -- Universal SSL Wrapper
Stunnel
is a program that allows you to encrypt arbitrary TCP connections
inside SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) available on both Unix and Windows.
Stunnel can allow you to secure non-SSL aware daemons and protocols
(like POP, IMAP, LDAP, etc) by having Stunnel provide the encryption,
requiring no changes to the daemon's code.
Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud Migration Support
The
Enomalism Elastic migration kit provides management and migration of
virtual images between a local virtualized server environment and the
remote Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud Environment.

Enomalism
is part of the GeoElastic Alliance The GeoElastic Alliance of regional
hosting centers enables members to offer collective hosting services
that can withstand the crush of daily requests for rich, dynamic,
interactive content, transactions and applications specifically
targeting the regions requiring the most demand. When delivering on
these requests, GeoElastic intelligently detects and avoids regional
Internet problem spots and vulnerabilities, to ensure Web-based
applications perform optimally, media and software download flawlessly,
and applications perform reliably.
