Thetus, CommIT Establish Semantic SOA for Navy Project

PORTLAND, Ore., April 21 -- Thetus Corp., a
leading provider of semantic knowledge modeling and discovery software
and CommIT Enterprises Inc., an integrated technology solution
provider, are expanding the boundaries of service-oriented architecture
(SOA) through participation in aXiom, a U.S. Space and Naval Warfare
Systems Center Charleston-led initiative to improve situational
awareness.
The aXiom project deploys applied semantics and ontological models
to establish a unique context management framework in a semantic
service-oriented architecture (SSOA). Thetus brings semantic technology
and underlying software infrastructure to the project with CommIT
developing the context management framework and enterprise concept map
needed to meet the program goals of improved situational awareness
through Web-centric dissemination and analysis of real and
near-real-time data.

The aXiom context management framework, through a combination of
commercial and open source software, supplies a dynamic operating
environment that models a complex enterprise. This framework enables
real-time extraction of relevant knowledge from disparate data sources
to be applied for evolving situational awareness. Ontologies, inference
engines and rules engines allow mapping between concepts and data
elements to support the discovery and analysis of new information and
non-obvious relationships. Through mapping organizational missions,
business processes, requirements, workflows, roles, resources and more,
the context-based nature of the framework ensures that the correct data
is presented to the appropriate user at the right time.
While many other SOA reference architectures and implementations
have a context layer, aXiom is unique in its approach to context
management in that it uses semantic technology to support service
functions such as data mapping and manipulation, metadata storage,
conceptual search, semantic inference, and integration with correlation
engines. All of these capabilities are in turn wrapped in a layer of
policy and history to support governance, security and system
evolution. These semantic components are integrated with one another
and available to users of the framework at large, establishing a
user-driven approach to enterprise modeling and knowledge discovery.
